OTHER TRAINING:

PLACEMAKING: MAKING IT HAPPEN  Offered in New York City though Project for Public Spaces, Bev attended this course and collaborated with international attendees from Brazil, Spain, Kyrgyzstan, Ukraine, US and Canada. The course is designed to help people create and sustain public spaces that build stronger communities. It helps citizens transform their public places into vital places that highlight local assets, spur rejuvenation and serve common needs.

Placemaking involves planning, design, management and programming of public spaces and facilitates creative patterns of activities and connections, cultural, economic, social and ecological, that define a place and support its ongoing evolution. An effective Placemaking process capitalizes on a local community’s assets, inspiration and potential, ultimately creating good public spaces that promote people’s health, happiness, and wellbeing.

CRIME PREVENTION THROUGH ENVIRONMENTAL DESIGN CPTED principles of design affect elements of the built environment ranging from the small-scale (such as the strategic use of shrubbery and other vegetation) to the overarching, including building form of an entire urban neighborhood and the amount of opportunity for ‘eyes on the street”. Working with local individuals from both law enforcement and the private sector, Bev researched and brought potential solutions forward to some of the ongoing issues that interfere with the safety and quiet enjoyment of certain areas in Grande Prairie. Taught by Greg Saville who co-founded the International CPTED Association and was a partner in Canada’s first consulting firm to specialize in CPTED. Some of the solutions brought forward can now be seen implemented around the City.

INTRODUCTION TO MARKETING  Athabasca University – Introduces marketing concepts, functions, and institutions. It also examines the influence of marketing on the Canadian economy and on the management of individual organizations.
